You can view the design in progress. I’d value your feedback as it’s for the people who take the time to come here, not me. I’ve received the following feedback:
* Use a larger default font (the font can be resized with your browser)
* The color doesn’t fit my personality and isn’t inviting
What do you think? Thanks to CSS, the color should be easy to change. What color do you picture this place?
I like the burgundy as it’s strong without being overpowering, I think. But it may be the gray that’s a turnoff. The logo needs to stay gray.

Hi Meryl–
I seem to be getting a 404 on that page, so I can’t comment, but is you new design going to be more mobile friendly? Just curious. Thanks.

The correct address is https://www.meryl.net/new/ of course, must be a typo.
The new layout looks good!
Good point, Eric. I can create a separate stylesheet for handheld devices. Plus, it’s designed with CSS instead of tables — these types of sites usually translate well for handhelds.
That site doesn’t have comments turned on yet — gotta get it moved over before doing that.
How embarrassing! Fixed.
Trying to figure out what features to have in the blog… subscribe to comments? Email to a friend? Don’t want to go over board. But I honestly don’t think subscribe to comments is needed as we don’t get a lot of ’em here.
Meryl,
I really like the new design. It’s a clean look and the subtleties of the layout – like the masthead textures, slight drop-shadow, and logo & sidebar overlaps – make it a very inviting design.
My only suggestion would be to split the sections a little more in the main content area. It could be as simple as a light grey line between the intro text, recent blogs, and recent features. I find my eye moving between these sections on the home page because the font is the same. If you bring out these sections even slightly, I think it would make a big difference on the readability of your content.
Understanding that you can’t activate comments until the new layout is live, I’d like to see how you treat the comment link and comments area.
Again, great job. I’ll check back to see when it’s live.
Pretty! 🙂
Your new design has a nice, clean simple air about it.
I’m not positive I love the two column approach to earlier posts, but maybe that’s becauseit’s a new idea (to me).
I appreciate your attention to varying type size. Many CSS designers ignore the (side)-effect(s) of a user who sets their browser minimum font size up (as do I).
Many display features break when using 18 pt minimum font size.
I can live with 12 pt, but 18 point increases my reading pleasure.
be well.
I think it’s just perfect.. It’s clean and simple.
I think the size of the font is ok.. (unless it was already changed?)
Coudln’t reply to your email, I got an NDR telling me my address was on a blacklist, Uh? 🙂 here’s the reply:
Oh, and as a last note, I think you are using WordPress right? You might want to add up the sociable plugin to your installation..
