Implants Give Perception of Hearing
Implant devices can give ‘perception’ of hearing to deaf, severely hearing-impaired clearly explains how implants work and what people implanted with these devices hear. Many ask me how I am doing with the implant. I know they’re interested and all, but it just not going to change for a long, long time. I have 30 years of a lipreading habit to change. An implant doesn’t make words come through much clearer than my hearing aids.

Thanks for the link. I’ve recently started thinking about getting a CI, but I was mostly interested in being able to hear instead of lip-reading… doesn’t sound like there are miracle cures!

As far as I know, the implants are the most effective at young age (usually the surgeries are made at the age of 2 when parents realize that their child is deaf)… Or they are quite effective wneh the person lost hearing when being an adult. Sarah http://www.dalloway-school.com

Apart from device funcitonalities it is also how the person trains oneself to use the methods effectively no matter how sophisticated the implant technology is.
